SENTILLION EXTENDS ITS LEADERSHIP IN PROVIDING
OPEN SOLUTIONS BY JOINING WITH ITS CUSTOMERS TO FORM IdMPOWER
Community Will Share Open Source Software
for Identity Management
ANDOVER, Mass. - March 7, 2006 - Sentillion, Inc., the leading
provider of identity and access management solutions for the always-on
healthcare industry, today announced that it has joined with some
of the leading healthcare provider organizations in North America
to form IdMPOWER, a unique new community that was founded
in order to empower customers to create comprehensive identity management
(IdM) solutions to serve the healthcare industry's urgent needs
to safeguard their systems and protect their patients' privacy.
Members of IdMPOWER benefit from the sharing of identity management
software adapters and best practices to dramatically reduce the
time and cost required to integrate divergent healthcare information
systems.
Charter members of IdMPOWER include Eisenhower Medical Center,
Fox Chase Cancer Center, Genesis Health Care System, Sisters of
Mercy Health System, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC),
and Valley Medical Center.
"The objective of IdMPOWER is to knock down the barriers that today
make it slow, complex, and expensive for provider organizations
to incorporate, under a single comprehensive IdM environment, the
myriad of information systems that they use to deliver healthcare,"
said Mick Murphy, chief technology officer, Sisters of Mercy Health
Systems. "While products for controlling and securing access to
healthcare information systems are present in the market, all of
these products require integration with the information systems
already deployed in each healthcare enterprise. The approaches for
achieving this type of integration vary dramatically in terms of
complexity, costs, effectiveness, and time to implement."
To address these challenges, Sentillion led the industry first
through its pioneering work on leading the creation of the Health
Level 7 (HL7) Context Management (CCOW) standard as well in developing
unique and innovative applied uses of the standard. CCOW is the
healthcare industry standard for IdM capabilities such as single sign-on. To facilitate adoption of the standard, Sentillion has
made its software development kit for implementing CCOW-compliance
readily available to more than 200 vendors and provider organizations
to date, including Cerner, Eclipsys, Epic, IDX, McKesson, Philips,
and Siemens. Interested vendors may find more information at www.sentillion.com.
Now, Sentillion is going even further by leading the formation
of IdMPOWER. The urgent need for IdM solutions means that healthcare
organizations' only choice should not be to wait for their vendors
to adopt standards. IdMPOWER enables healthcare organizations to
address these integration challenges at their own pace by providing
them with access to an open source library of IdM software adapters.
These adapters make it possible to easily connect healthcare applications
with Sentillion's Vergence IdM solution, deployed by healthcare
organizations across North America, to achieve IdM capabilities,
such as single sign-on, privacy auditing, and account provisioning.
"UPMC has benefited tremendously by being able to incorporate
a wide range of our key clinical systems within our Vergence single
sign-on solution. We not only look forward to continuing to extend
the reach of our single sign-on capability, but we also are eager
to share our accomplishments with other healthcare organizations,"
said Mark Hopkins, chief information officer, UPMC Academic and
Community Hospitals.
The software adapters that are available through IdMPOWER are contributed
by IdMPOWER members as well as by Sentillion. Sentillion will lead
the process of testing, documenting and maintaining the adapters
to ensure consistent quality and reliability. To launch the community,
Sentillion, along with IdMPOWER charter members, will provide the
source code for a variety of software adapters that were created
to enable IdM-based integration with healthcare applications. These
adapters will work with applications from vendors such as AGFA,
Cerner, Citrix, Dictaphone, IBM, IDX, Kronos, Peoplesoft, Quadramed,
Misys/Sunquest, and many others. This collection of adapters is
expected to rapidly grow as provider organizations continue to join
IdMPOWER.
IdMPOWER members will have access to an online knowledge base and
facilitated discussion forums. They will also qualify for a rewards
program. For additional information about IdMPOWER, please visit www.sentillion.com
