TOP 100 HOSPITAL - EISENHOWER MEDICAL CENTER - IMPLEMENTS SENTILLION SINGLE SIGN-ON SOLUTION TO IMPROVE INFORMATION ACCESS
Twenty-three Applications are Integrated to Improve Information Access, Security, and Patient Safety
ANDOVER, Mass. – May 2, 2007 – Sentillion Inc. today announced that Eisenhower Medical Center (Eisenhower) of Rancho Mirage, California, a recipient of the Solucient® 100 Top Hospitals Award, has completed deployment of its single sign-on technology throughout its facilities. The solution expedites the sign-on and sign-off process for six McKesson modules, two Cerner applications and a variety of other clinical, non-clinical, and homegrown programs. It also has been adapted to support Eisenhower’s clinical workflow.
Elimination of multiple usernames and passwords were the driving forces behind the decision to move forward with the project. As part of this effort, the Eisenhower IT staff had a vision for creating a clinical desktop that would benefit the clinical staff and help the organization tighten security at the same time.
“What really got our attention was Sentillion’s Launchpad tool,” said Walter Seay, manager of new technologies at Eisenhower. “We realized that this toolbar interface, in conjunction with Sentillion’s single sign-on capabilities, would provide the ideal platform to implement the solution we had in mind.” CIO David Perez added, “I believe in technology, but the more applications you add the more important it becomes to present users with a desktop that makes application access easy, intuitive and consistent throughout the facility.”
Sentillion’s Launchpad toolbar presents most caregivers with only those applications they need to use based on their role in the organization. To create a complete environment for users, the IT organization also integrated shared folders, calculators and other commonly used tools along with the clinical applications they needed. “Now, once a user is authenticated the toolbar displays everything they are authorized to use without cluttering their desktop with things they don’t use or don’t have privileges to access,” said Mr. Seay.
The project has been well received by the clinical user community. Multiple sets of credentials are gone, and users are very happy with the way the system supports the way they work. “Our users are very impressed on how easy this has made everything to access and use,” said Mr. Perez.
To support repetitive functions, certain tasks have been automated and made available through single Launchpad buttons. For example, prior to Sentillion, the completion of a single task might require a nurse to sign on to the workstation and an application, navigate through several different screens, input information, print the result, and then remember to sign out. “Today they sign on once, click one button on the desktop, input information and they’re done. Everything else happens automatically and securely,” said Mr. Seay.
